John C. Kulp

John C. Kulp retired in 1988 from the United Methodist
Church of Eastern Pennsylvania. Dr. Kulp has served the district in many
appointments including Senior Pastor, District Superintendent, and Minister
of Pastoral Care to the Clergy and Clergy Families. He started his career
as a United States Navy Chaplain and briefly taught English at the Pennington
School.
Jack is a 1940 graduate of Northeast High School in
Philadelphia, and then continued his education at the University of
Pennsylvania where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He has a
Masters in Divinity from Drew Theological Seminary, attended Temple
University School of Theology, received a Masters of Arts degree from
Drew University, and a Doctorate in Ministry from Eastern Baptist
Theological Seminary in 1983.
Dr. Kulp is a Fellow in the American Association of Marriage
and Family Therapy. He received WWII Victory and American Theater Medals. Jack
was also awarded a Fellowship for Excellence in Preaching at Ezra S. Tipple
Seminary.
As a child, Jack was escorted to the Tabernacle services by
his Mother, Edith W. Kulp, who was the granddaughter of Tabernacle Founder, Dr.
William B. Wood. Dr. Kulp first joined the Board of Trustees in 1961. Then in
1988, he was invited by William G. Luff to be Senior Chaplain for several summer
seasons. He is honored to be a Distinguished Fellow and Life Trustee of the
Tabernacle Board since 1996.
On his 26th birthday, June 4, 1949, he was married to Aurelia
Marian. Together they have one daughter and one son.
