Ambassador William J. Hughes

William J. Hughes served as the United States Ambassador
to Panama. Prior to this appointment, he served in the United States Congress,
as First Assistant Prosecutor of Cape May County and as a partner in Loveland,
Hughes, and Garrett.
Currently, he is a Distinguished Scholar of Public Policy at
The Richard Stockton College of Jersey, and Of Counsel for Riker, Danzig,
Scherer, Hyland, and Perretti. Ambassador Hughes graduated from Rutgers
University, and has received honorary degrees from Rutgers University, Rowan
University, Stockton College, Mt. Vernon College, Cumberland Community College,
and Atlantic Cape Community College.
His many awards include Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni,
Commander’s Award for Public Service to the Coast Guard and Army, Older Women’s
League’s Lifetime Achievement Award, The Audubon Society’s Golden Osprey Award,
American Society of Composer’s, Author’s, and Publisher’s Friends of Music
Award, American Rivers Award, National Associations of Police Organization’s
Congressman of the Year Award, National Conference of Christians and Jews’
Brotherhood Award, Girl Scouts of America’s Man of the Year Award, National
Association of Court Reporters’ Charles Dickens Award for Literacy in the Law,
and the National District Attorney’s Association’s President’s Award.
Bill and his wife Nancy first attended the Tabernacle in the
1960’s. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
