Herbert T. Adams Jr. is a licensed Professional Engineer
and Land Surveyor and has served as chairman of the Tabernacle building
expansion projects since 2003. After graduation from Drexel University
with a civil engineering degree, he worked for E.I. DuPont in Orange, TX, Kimble
Glass in Vineland, NJ and retired from Atlantic City Electric as General Manager
of Southern Properties after 34 years with perfect attendance.
Mr. Adams graduated from Millville High School, as Class Vice
President. During that time he earned his Eagle Scout award. He then
served in the Air Force during WW II before pursing his undergraduate studies.
His community volunteer service has included the Boy Scouts,
Kiwanis Club, Exchange Club, Planning Board, Coastal Conservation Board, Utility
Advisory Board, Library Board, two School Boards, and as Chairman of the Zoning
Board, and President of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce. For
these many contributions, Ocean City named him Volunteer of the Year in both
2003 and 2005.
Along with serving on the Tabernacle Board of Trustees, he
has been an usher for over 40 years. He first attended summer services in
the 1930’s.
With his wife of 55 years, Catherine Carroll Adams, they have
seven children, 23 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
