JAY KESLER

Upland, Ind. -    Dr. Jay Kesler, President Emeritus of Taylor University, will speak at Ocean City Tabernacle, at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m., and again for the Dedication of the new addition at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2005.

Kesler is the author of 23 books including Emotionally Healthy Teenagers, Growing Pains, Family Forum, Restoring A Loving Marriage, Grandparenting – The Agony and the Ecstasy, Challenges for the College Bound, and Being Holy, Being Human. In addition, he has authored numerous magazine articles for publications including Christianity Today, Eternity, Moody Monthly, Today’s Christian Woman, and Sunday Digest. Kesler was president of Youth for Christ, a worldwide evangelical Christian outreach to young people, from 1973-85, and served that organization for a total of 30 years. His syndicated radio program Family Forum was heard on over 400 stations worldwide until his retirement from that ministry in 1998. From 1985-2000, Kesler served as president of his alma mater, Taylor University, Upland and Fort Wayne, IN. During his tenure, Taylor was listed twelve times in the US News and World Report Survey, America’s Best Colleges, opened a campus in Fort Wayne, IN, and completed the first successful capital campaign in its history. The $75 million Taylor Tomorrow capital campaign was nearing its 80% mark when Kesler assumed the role of chancellor on July 1, 2000.  He retired the chancellor’s position in 2003.

The Council for Christian Colleges and Universities named Kesler a Distinguished Senior Fellow in 2000. In becoming only the third person to receive the honor, Kesler joins Dr. Richard Halverson, former Chaplain of the United States Senate, and Charles Colson, the Watergate figure whose conversion to evangelical Christianity sparked movements ranging from evangelism to prison reform.

Kesler and his wife Jane are the parents of three children and grandparents of nine.
