David Goodnow joined CNN Headline
News in October 1982 as one of its
original national and international
anchors. He has worked at the anchor
desk for more than 16 years and,
according to CNN research, has
acquired global credibility, face
and voice recognition.
Goodnow was on the air when some
of the major stories of the 80's and
90's occurred. He was the first US
reporter to break the news of the
death of Soviet President Leonid
Brezhnev in 1982. He anchored live
coverage of Desert Storm with
on-scene correspondents and covered
the Iraqi capitulation live.
Reporting for group radio and TV
stations, he has covered Illinois
and Indiana state governments,
presidential campaigns in the
Midwest, plus inaugural events in
Washington, D.C. As an investigative
reporter, one of his many series, on
railroad right-of-way safety, was
honored by Broadcasting Magazine.
Goodnow has lectured at five
colleges and universities on TV
news-gathering, production,
reporting and anchoring. He is a
member of The Fellowship of
Christian Journalists and The Society of
Professional Journalists and also
coaches younger television anchors
in writing and presentation.
He was public relations and
alumni director for a college, media
relations supervisor for a large,
Midwestern electric utility and was
a partner and later owner of an
advertising and public relations
agency with national and regional
clients.
Goodnow holds an Honorary
Doctorate degree in broadcasting
from Indiana's Vincennes University
and the University's Faculty
Citation for his career in
broadcasting, public relations and
community service. A member of Media
Fellowship International, he
received its 1997 Ambassador Award.
A military historian and former
pilot, Goodnow began his broadcast
career as a reporter, air
personality and salesman in radio
stations in Illinois and Indiana. He
now serves as a guest anchor at CNN
Headline News, church media
consultant, writer, and professional voice-over for
clients.
